boston // i can’t come up with a tagline

Still need a Christmas present for that show-going, hip, and incredibly good-looking friend in your life?

CQ Presents has come up with something so simple, such a no-brainer, that I am beginning to think they are actually geniuses: the six-month Bridge Badge! For $149 (+ $10 handling), you can go to all the Great Scott and TT the Bear’s shows you can IMAGINE. You might have to advance RSVP to some shows, but really, you can handle that.

Sit down, run the math, and think about it. With this thing in your back pocket, you could be walking by Great Scott on your way home from Staples, realize you have an hour to kill before band practice, and decide to wander in to see what The Blah Blah Blahs sound like. Without touching a single dollar bill. Imagine!!

I’m ranting. Get all the nitty-gritty HERE.

But wait, there’s more! Of all the shows you’re going to see with your slick badge, there’s a good chance Girlfriends may be on a bill or two. Which is awesome, because Girlfriends are awesome. So awesome, that they gave all of us an early Christmas present. Check out their hot new digital release and play the “Is That Andy Singing?!” game.

Remember that song about going to Boston?

Those guys sang it. I’m not going to make you listen to the song, this is just my clever way of saying “I’m going to Boston!” today. Yep, 9 AM and I’m ready (this is a feat of epic proportions if you are familiar with me and my love of sleep).

There’s just… there’s just one thing. Of all the days in all the months, today is the day that Girlfriends are coming down from Boston to play at Cake Shop. I do hope you’ll consider it, NYC.

What’s my consolation prize, besides going to a place I wax pretty nostalgically hard about and seeing friends? Why, Boston (yes, the whole city) just went ahead and decided to put together a dreamy show themselves… Bozmo and Clippers are at O’Brien’s!

nyc // friday

Since I started trying to go to sleep last night, there have been two separate firetruck envoys rushing down the street, a girl telling a guy “I hate when you stronghold me with your political views”, and a loud bang which I’m, in hindsight, certain was one of my cats running into my door.

What I’m trying to say is, I didn’t sleep all that well. And I am completely overwhelmed by the listings for this Friday night… I don’t know what to choose.

Let me show you why:

1. At Brooklyn Bowl, there is a $25 (adv) Jonathan Toubin benefit show: Yeah Yeah Yeahs, Heavy Trash, Stabbing Eastward, Royal Baths, Gibby Haynes (DJ Set), Bear in Heaven (DJ Set), Habibi (DJ Set), Slowdance (DJ Set)

2. Brooklyn Night Bazaar, $10 = Fucked Up, DOM, Big Troubles, Radical Dads, Frankie Rose (DJ set), Bill Pearis (DJ set)

3. Knitting Factory, $10 = Parts and Labor, Pterodactyl, Hunters

4. Big Snow Buffalo Lodge, $8 = Quilt, Night Manager, Hume, In Buenos Aires, Tucker Rountree, Web Dating

5… You know what, that’s it. That’s all you’re getting. There’s too much. I can’t even tell you what I would go to.

Actually, that’s a lie…

If you watch that whole thing, you got all the details you need. And I’m sorry.

If not, this is how 285 Kent’s first Christmas party of the year is gonna go…

|||| Amen Dunes
|||||| Big Troubles
|||||||| Hard Bop (it’s really hard to find their URL?)

Will there be a Santa? Will Ducktails perform as a full band? If only there was a way for you to find out…

I can’t believe I keep forgetting to post about Boston Hassle!

Brainchild of Dan from Bodies of Water and Sam from Boston Compass, Boston Hassle should be your new go-to for news on Boston’s underground (which you know is my favorite thing). And what’s better than a strong internet presence? Something you can HOLD.

Enter, the button. The 3″, wearable, playable, $10 button that contains 13 of the top tracks from the scene in 2011.

Listen, and buy, if you like!
