Maybe people read this who don’t live in Boston. Maybe these same people like having fun?

Perhaps you’ve been keeping an eye on the interwebs and caught wind of the cool little thing happening over at Today’s Soundtrack on Boston.com.

Perhaps not… Check this out! Ben over there got in touch with a few local bloggers and gave us a homework assignment: Write about a location in Boston, one that means something, and connect it to a song. Easier said than done, let me tell ya.

Grab yourself a cup of coffee and stay awhile, these are some great reads!

last night of the as built pr residency

Every once in a while, I like to blow your minds with an actual download. Makes me feel like a real blog, yaknow?

Thank goodness for As Built PR! Throughout September, As Built’s been hosting a weekly residency at O’Brien’s Pub (that I’ve been ever so subtly pushing in your face). To celebrate this, Mike threw together a killer mix of some of the best bands involved.

Listen to it, dig it, download it (free).
Then get to the last night of the residency, tonight!

Words to describe tonight’s show include: “really great-looking carnivorous plants” (Ampeater), “real overload in thorny compositions” (Phoenix) and “shoegaze and anything released on Creation Records” (As Built). I’m not going to tell you which band is which, you’re going to have to show up to find out.

Ohhh confession time: I love the Lemonheads.

“Punk” Lemonheads

“Grown Up” Lemonheads

Evan Dando without the Lemonheads covering someone else

Yep, love it.

Tonight Mr. Dando plays the first of two sold-out shows at the Mercury Lounge. WITH JULIANA HATFIELD!

You bet I’ll tell you how this is!

little gold / exit music

The next day, I got the twenty-four hour super-cold. I slept through all signs of daylight, waiting for the internet dude to come, coaxing my body to be ready for round two. Feeling slightly more like a human, I persuaded Alex (roommate, you’ll hear this name almost as much as Cat Pilgrim’s) to come with me to a show at Union Pool in Williamsburg.

Why? Mostly to catch Little Gold, the new band of Christian DeRoeck (ex-Woods and Meneguar), Brian Markham and Pat Broderick. And a totally amazing thing happened. They played this song:

How can I not be a fan?

Before them was Exit Music, duo Aleksa Palladino & Devon Church. This band blew my mind apart. Turn your lights off, grab a glass of something, and check these guys out. Soaring, dark, amazing.

2 for 2. Liking this town.

Where Am I?
