nyc by way of boston // muchmore’s tonight!

May 2, 2013 § Leave a comment

It’s an unfortunate truth that if I stopped working Thursdays, I wouldn’t be able to afford anything but lentils and rice. If I lived in a boring town with no sense of creativity (is there such a place?) this would be okay, but REAL good things keep happening on Thursdays and it’s verging on torture..

Take tonight at Muchmore’s: halfsour + Summer Saints + Infinity Hotel.

halfsour is a new band from Boston, made up of three very cool people. Their bandcamp went live just yesterday with the songs from a five track cassette (c/o everydayisamixtape) and I’m happy to say it’s fun and catchy and very worth the fifteen minutes of your life it’ll take to listen.

WOULD YOU LOOK AT THAT ALBUM ART?!
halfsour

I KNOW, right? Also playing tonight is vaguely Boston-connected Summer Saints (hey why is none of your stuff online JOE?) and Infinity Hotel.

Facebook RSVP heeereeee but 8 PM and $5 is kinda all you need to know

I’m having a really hard time getting anything done. I’ve realized that not next Wednesday and not the Wednesday after that, but the one after THAT, I will be in Austin. I will not be wearing the huge sweater I am right now. I will probably be eating/just ate/about to eat a taco. You guys can gripe about SX as much as you want, for me it was a happy place (this comes from adopting an “eff it I’ll see them in NYC” attitude that saved my feet and friendships).

Anywho, life continues. There’s a cat on my lap and a pot of coffee in front of me. What’s going on?

*True story I’ve had this window open for about an hour now just talking to Laura (that’s my roommate) about pierogi trucks and Girls and boys*

It’s dinner time, so I’m just going to leave you with the knowledge and the recommendation that Boston’s Ex-Magicians have generously offered up their EP at a name-your-own/don’t-be-a-jerk price. And that I like it! Also they mentioned me on their Facebook page today which made my heart smile.

Theirs was the last show I ever saw at WWTA, and a tape that I own proudly.

This is an example of the sort of email I pay attention to:

We’re playing this one tomorrow night:  http://www.facebook.com/events/315859095170879/.

Down by the Charles, on the Charles really, down in Allston.  Lots of good bands doing it plein air style.

This is also the sort of email that makes me consider buying new underwear (WHO HAS TIME FOR LAUNDRY), jumping into my car and just GOING. Consider being the key word here, unfortunately.
In case I’m losing you, let me spell it out. On the banks of ye olde Charles River, tonight, these people will be playing instruments, acoustically:
Banditas . Hyena . Needy Visions . Arkm Foam (of Peace, Loving) . Pile . Pancho The Kid . Brendon Wood(of Devil Music/Debo Band) . Gracious Calamity . Ryan Krause . Rotten Apples . Hands and Knees . Kal Marks . Hot Tub Panorama . Olivia . Ben Potrykus (of Bent Shapes)

Futhermore, I’ve been listening to Kal Marks all day

I’ve been putting off doing laundry (well, really, who wakes up in the morning and exclaims “YES! FINALLY! LAUNDRY DAY!”? No one) since I woke up this morning, drinking lots of coffee and making different foods and listening to tons of things.

Things like Fat History Month, over and over and over… If you’re a Boston resident, you might know these guys fairly well. If you ain’t… well, that’s why I’m here.

.

Two Fun Facts:
1. Fat History Month were champions of a spirited (I really want to use “spritely” today) internet campaign during the last Boston Phoenix Best Music Poll that landed them as winners of the created-for-them Write-In category.
2. They’re playing in Allston at WC on Saturday (ask a punk), and Sunday in Brooklyn at Shea Stadium with Punks on Mars.

Where Am I?
